Helianthus - from the Greek, Helios, "sun" and anthos, "flower" - comprises of about 70 species in the family Asteraceae, native to North America. Sunflowers tilt during the day to face the sun, but stop once they begin blooming. This tracking of the sun in young sunflower heads is called heliotropism. By the time they are mature, sunflowers generally face east. Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower, is an annual species of sunflower grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits.
The squirrels, Blue-Jays, Parrots and, well most bird in my garden LOVE these seeds, they cannot get enough.

As an award-winning photographer, I have been behind a camera as early as age 10 - capturing the light on the leaves, through the trees, the setting sun behind storm clouds and watching sunlight dance on the water. I create fine art, 'dreamaginations', inspired by the natural beauty, serenity, strength, order and perfection in the world. I am awed by the creatures that we exist with. My love of people watching turned into candid portraits, macro, landscape and street photography. I am a writer, photographer, traveler, lucid dreamer ...not necessarily in that order.
